Screenshot titled "Vasara 2.0b options screen"

A work-in-progress update of Hopper & Ares Ex Machina’s texturing plugin (which itself is based on treellama & Jon Irons’ Visual Mode.lua), with several new features:

  • Support for Aleph One’s 1.7 new transfer modes
  • Vastly more grid alignment options, including options to decouple X and Y alignment; options to align textures to the center, right, bottom, north, west, south, or east; and several more grid sizes.
  • A “decouple transparent sides” option that allows you to apply different textures, alignments, and lights to each transparent side of a line.
  • Options to apply only the texture or only the transfer mode rather than both.
  • A toggle for the “realign textures when retexturing” option.
  • Overlays that show what you’re looking at (useful if you want to use Lua scripts on part of the level).

It also fixes several bugs, most glaringly the Lua error spam that happened whenever you had “apply texture” and “apply light” selected with a light value above 55.

To install:

This remains a work in progress, and updates may be slow, as Vasara’s code is sparsely documented and frequently quite dense, but I intend to continue working on it. I welcome constructive suggestions (best delivered through GitHub or Discord) and will attempt to implement them as time permits.

Enjoy!

Notes for version 2.0b:

Simplici7y 2.0.0

Switch on 06/24/2023

Screenshot titled "New Design"

Simplici7y is a file sharing web application for the Aleph One community. Originally written in with Ruby on Rails 1.0 and hosted alongside The Pfhorums, Simplici7y is now a Django 4 Application deployed to Heroku from Github.

The project is named after a 7-polygon mapping challenge, which focuses on doing more with less.

When Fileball suffered downtime in early 2007, Jon Irons saw the need to fill the gap as soon as possible. He came to me with his idea for a new project. Jon's support was fundamental to the development and successful launch of Simplici7y, and I consider this project his as much as it is mine.

Simplici7y came online on the second anniversary of The Pfhorums. After Fileball was destroyed in a fire, S7 became the de facto place to publish. In the 16 years it has been online, there have been over 12 million downloads, 600 items and 1,400 reviews.

Notes for version 2.0.0:

On our 16th anniversary, 2.0.0 is a complete rewrite of the original Ruby on Rails application into Python / Django 4. This also includes:

  • Moved to modern hosting (Heroku / AWS) which means no more downtime!
  • Much faster file download and page load times
  • Better permissions and data validation (10,000 star feature)
  • Higher resolution thumbnails
  • Automatic deploys from git main branch for quick and easy development or bug fixes
  • An automatic admin backend for easy moderation
  • Trigram search for misspellings
  • Much more search-engine optimized with redirects from bad URLs and mobile-friendly CSS
  • All of this and more in 4k lines of code vs the previous 33k!

Feature development is now much easier, so head over to Github to submit requests or report any bugs you find.

Notes for version 1.0:

ampeg_release may need to be adjusted on some of the instruments to properly recreate.

2.1 accented hi-hat sounds weird but that may just be how QuickTime processes it in a mix.

Random spikes in MIDI playback may be caused by duplicate notes.

Screenshot titled "typical JSON"

A physics-to-JSON and JSON-to-physics utility that creates human-readable output useful for version control systems such as git. You can then edit these JSON files using a text editor, another program, etc. and turn them into physics files. Also included are utility scripts for:

  • viewing differences between git commits for physics, between any two non-tracked files, or between some mixture of these
  • retroactively building a parallel set of commits for a JSON version of one or more physics files' existing history
  • automatically generating JSON for every committed physics file, bundling the JSON into the commit

Source code and binaries are available on my website; also available there are signatures for individual binaries. I recommend using them to verify whichever you might run.

For verification purposes, here is my public key fingerprint:

M1 Lua Mnemonics 1.0

Hopper on 02/23/2014

Writing a Lua plugin for Marathon under Aleph One 1.1? This script will rename the mnemonics for monsters, projectiles, etc. so you can find the right objects.

2,425 downloads, 0 reviews, 0 screenshots

This plugin increases the number of AI monsters active at any one time. The increased number was the default setting in Aleph One until 1.1, when the Marathon 2/Infinity defaults were restored.

You should use this plugin with scenarios built specifically for Aleph One, such as Eternal X, Kill Them All, or Phoenix. When/if those scenarios are updated, you will no longer need this plugin. Do not enable the plugin for scenarios orginally designed for Marathon Infinity, such as Tempus Irae.

This Aleph One plugin allows you to go under water calmly without having to look at those heinous faders. It works great for texturing liquid maps with Visual Mode by treellama, and is compatible with Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity and other plugins.

Now you can hear the Original Marathon Soundtrack in the modern MIDI Instruments for Quicktime! Me sad though, no plugin, no MML script, just replace your Tracks folder with the new one... :'-(

Notes for version Bonus Edition:

It may not be a plugin, and it may not replace on its own, but it has some cool extra stuff, things for newcomers and things for Born on Boards!

Screenshot titled "Some height presets."

This utility will let you assign floor & ceiling heights without having to first set them up in a level editor!

Its actually a template level which you start out with and you create your own level in it.

The height range is from nearly -32 WU floor to 32 WU ceiling. Its like having height presets for 64 flights of stairs in a starship or building, or a resolution of 512 map elevation contours for your giant outdoor hills, valleys and pools of liquid. Hey, maybe both. There are as many ceiling settings as there are floor settings, so there's room for that underground cave system of yours too!

The included Read Me explains how to first use the presets and later how to delete the preset polygons, if need be.

Kimblee- Physics 1.15

AttilaGeek on 03/22/2011

Physics model, the last of many I've made. Here are the changes: --Pistol: No change (although a little buggy with the shapes) --shotgun: Now shoots flame rounds --Fusion: bolts look different, but function basically the same. --AR: shoots orange drone bolts, grenades bounce and have bigger, blue explosions. --SMG: shoots persistent/virulent bolts that act like grenades. Looks really cool, my favorite weapon. --Flamer: shoots a beam of fire that looks like the alien weapon from M2/Inf. --Rocket: Wave Motion Cannon. Persistent and virulent, looks like a giant fusion bolt and has a huge blast radius.

Also comes with Kimblee_Shapes, the shapes file needed to run it properly, otherwise you'll just get wierdly colored sprites.

Notes for version 1.15:

Versions 1-14 i kept to myself, but it is still a work in progress and as such any suggestions are welcome. I have some older physics models i made, and if anyone wants them i will upload those too.
