Dead City 5.0

Nibenon on 06/03/2011

Screenshot titled "Previous Version, satisfied?"

The first ever survival map, with a base, plentiful weapons and healing, and lots of space for battle. And yes, I MADE THE PREVIOUS DEAD CITY MAP AS WELL, SO OF COURSE IT LOOKS LIKE IT. DUH.

Notes for version 5.0:

Completely redone: you can now run up the rocks, distracting polygons are removed, others were added, and especially the size will allow for more carnage. Take note: despite size change, aliens will still get stuck on the steps, and must be killed with bullets, not by 'splodes. My solo record is now 22. Good luck.

This is hopefully a "fixed" version of my maps. I works on OSX and OS9, but I don't have a PC or UNIX computer to test the other versions of A1.

There's only one terminal picture (which is a placeholder) so if you lose the resource fork on a PC, don't sweat it.

Screenshot titled "Solo, 16:9"

NOW UPDATED FOR ULTRAWIDE AND 16:10!

Experience the authentic 1994 jank of Marathon 1's classic HUD as if it were made for your monitor!

This plugin takes the classic HUD and extends it to fill modern 16:9, 16:10, and Ultrawide displays.

The same plugin covers widescreen monitors whether it is 16:9, 16:10, or 21:9. It automatically adapts to your chosen resolution.

With the extra space, additional inventory pages are displayed. In Solo games, weapons and ammo are displayed. In Netgames, the scoreboard is always displayed.

Based on the Default M1 HUD plugin included with Aleph One's M1 release.

For a more minimal but still classic style HUD, check out my Widescreen Marathon 2 HUD plugin, which includes a specially modified variant for Marathon 1.

Wide Marathon 2 & Marathon Infinity HUD here.

Notes for version 2.611:

v2.611 - just a re-zip since the plugin wasn't in a folder, sorry

v2.610 - Added 16:10 version for Steam Deck and Mac players. Updated to newer Default M1 HUD script.

v2.19 - Added 21:9 Ultrawide support

My first ever finished game, a final project during my art studies at VMA in 2008/2009.

An experiment in how far one can go by stripping the elements of a video game down to its bare essentials of mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics, while in the meantime, showcasing the importance and the purpose of audial elements in interactive entertainment.

Set in a bleak sterile world of white, where nothing exists except the disturbingly pure visuals, the game follows the avatar's journey through the bleak levels of the world, accompanied by a soundtrack, to migrate and merge to the unknown entity which called for him.

Susannah was showcased at the Þrír í Þriðja exhibition in Verksmiðjan, Hjalteyri (Iceland) in 2009.

  • W, A, S, and D + Mouse for movement

Dodge & Cover 1.01

Cathunter on 05/11/2008

I don't know the original author of this map but since it seems to be popular I'll add a copy here. If someone know where it came from please let me know.

Good for 3-8 people in closed arena allowing plenty of "dodge & cover" while playing.

Drone.lua 1.01

RAITHE on 08/30/2010

Screenshot titled "Drone killing BoB!"

This is a script, physics model, and shapes file that, when all are loaded, simulates being a drone (IMPORTANT: Make sure the map you are using doesn't have a physics model merged). Use the mic key (spacebar is good) to move and look up or down to change altitude. when the mic key is off, you are stationary and cannot move. Use the cycle weapons forward and backward to dodge right and left (dodging is pretty buggy at the moment, working on a solution). The more repair chips you have (uplink chips), the faster you will regenerate health. The drone bolts you fire have a homing system that homes towards the last enemy you aimed at (to turn this off, open the script and set "enabled" to "false"). I'm working on making this multiplayer, but for now that is totally a NO. KNOWN BUGS: when you land on the floor, you usually are stuck there and cannot go up again, but you can still move around on the level you are at (if you go off a ledge or go up a level (floor-wise) you'll be able to take off again).

Once I'll be satisfied with how this one turns out, I'll move on to a juggernaut one.

Replaces the 2d scenery sprites with 3d models in Marathon 1

Note: works best in shader mode.

Make sure bloom is turned off!

Obviously some errors can't be avoided, but I have done my best to smooth over as many bumps as possible.

Notes for version 1.2:

-Replaced the escape pod model with a much better one

-Changed the pfhor egg to be more like the original (an egg)

This is a demo/proof of concept release for an OPEN-TO-EVERYONE COMMUNITY MAPPING PROJECT, Durandal Done Different. Inspired by community projects for Doom, such as Doom The Way Id Did, DDD is a celebration of the original game, its limitations, quirks and strengths.

The end goal of this project is to recreate, in the "style" of the original game, the entire 28-level campaign for Marathon 2. This isn't strictly speaking remakes of the original levels, but just a different interpretation of the writing and story beats as if it were 1995 all over again.

This 3-level demo features my replacements for Waterloo Waterpark, Slings and Arrows, and What About Bob. They're meant as a demonstration of the project's objective.

You are welcome to contribute! A direct link to the Discord for development of this project is in the text file of this download, or you can ask me for it on the main Marathon discord. Or you can just play the 3 maps included and wait patiently for the final release, sometime in the heavens...

This is a simple modification to the LUA script included with the FloatingX HUD program. It adds an ammunition counter for the Alien Weapon. In keeping with the spirit of the FloatingX HUD, the ammo count jitters and flickers around with the static displayed in the HUD when using the Alien Weapon.

Download the FloatingX HUD from this site, back up the FloatingX.lua file inside, and replace it with this one to install.

Notes for version 1.0:

Simple code change to the FloatingX.lua file tested in Marathon 2 using latest Aleph One build.

Retexture Lua 1.0

W'rkncacnter on 10/02/2016

Sick of mappers that carefully select textures to go with their useless maps? Tired of playing boring old maps that look the same every time you play?

Now there's a Lua script to randomly generate new textures each time you play!

It may even be slightly less terrible than you're thinking.

2,375 downloads, 0 reviews, 0 screenshots

This solo Lua script makes you, the player, more vocal.

At any time, you can press the "~" key to speak some chatter.

You will also yell at friends who accidentally hurt you, and grunt when you experience pain.

You may also find yourself apologizing for friendly fire, and taunting enemies you kill.

BUT... There is one big twist... You may attract unwanted attention with your newfound voice...

Notes for version 1.0:

This will probably be the only release of this that I do. This mod can get annoying...

Screenshot titled "Marathon 2 and Infinity, Widescreen Enhanced"

NOW UPDATED TO SUPPORT MARATHON 1 AND MOST CUSTOM SCENARIOS!

This plugin allows you to experience Marathon 2's original 1995 classic status bar HUD, but modified to better support today's widescreen displays. This plugin supports Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity, and many scenarios, and even provides an M2-like HUD for Marathon 1.

This widescreen HUD has 2 flavors, a 'lite' version and an 'enhanced' version:

CLASSIC M2 (UNRESTRICTED VIEW): The original HUD, uses original graphics, but removes the letterboxing on the 3D game view, allowing any widescreen aspect ratio, should be compatible with all scenarios

CLASSIC M2 (WIDESCREEN ENHANCED): Extends the status bar graphics to fill a 16:9 screen. To utilize the extra space, a second inventory page is displayed. In Netgames, this second page shows the scoreboard.

Due to the necessity of custom graphics, "Widescreen Enhanced" HUD is only guaranteed to work with the following scenarios:

  • Marathon 1, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity
  • Any scenarios which use the default M2/MI HUD graphics, such as: Tempus Irae, Phoenix, EVIL, and many more
  • The following scenarios with custom HUD graphics: Apotheosis, Apotheosis X, Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge, Marathon Squadron, Portal of Sigma, RED, Return To Marathon, Rubicon/Rubicon X, Trojan

See included Readme for installation instructions.

All Lua work is based on "M2 Default HUD" posted here by Hopper, as well as the scenarios' original art, with additions by me to support the enhanced widescreen features.

Widescreen Marathon 1 Classic HUD is available here

Notes for version 2.02:

v2.02: code tweaks to prevent redundant background fills; no visual changes

v2.01: fix terminals at 'Largest' setting scaling improperly at very low game resolutions

v2.0: add marathon 1 and trojan huds, and code cleanup

v1.9: add scenarios support, resize HUD to be a perfect 2x scale at 1080p, add lite version

Screenshot titled "Yes, it really* looks like that."

Replaces the old flamethrower projectile animation with prettier flame. Works best with bloom enabled.

Added 7 additional frames, so this uses a shapes patch to append some bitmaps and frames to the explosions collection.

For added fun, make some custom physics with a slower, wandering flamethrower burst. Also cut down the firing sequence on anything using a flamethrower to one tick.

M2 Default HUD 1.2

Hopper on 06/03/2024

Screenshot titled ""

Are you working on a Lua HUD, and want to know how to draw inventory panels or weapons just like the built-in one? This plugin acts just like the hardcoded HUD from M2 and Infinity, so you can see how to duplicate any feature in Lua. It works with third-party scenarios too.

Notes for version 1.2:

Fixes errors in net games with a kill limit or time-based scoring.

Simplici7y 2.0.0

Switch on 06/24/2023

Screenshot titled "New Design"

Simplici7y is a file sharing web application for the Aleph One community. Originally written in with Ruby on Rails 1.0 and hosted alongside The Pfhorums, Simplici7y is now a Django 4 Application deployed to Heroku from Github.

The project is named after a 7-polygon mapping challenge, which focuses on doing more with less.

When Fileball suffered downtime in early 2007, Jon Irons saw the need to fill the gap as soon as possible. He came to me with his idea for a new project. Jon's support was fundamental to the development and successful launch of Simplici7y, and I consider this project his as much as it is mine.

Simplici7y came online on the second anniversary of The Pfhorums. After Fileball was destroyed in a fire, S7 became the de facto place to publish. In the 16 years it has been online, there have been over 12 million downloads, 600 items and 1,400 reviews.

Notes for version 2.0.0:

On our 16th anniversary, 2.0.0 is a complete rewrite of the original Ruby on Rails application into Python / Django 4. This also includes:

  • Moved to modern hosting (Heroku / AWS) which means no more downtime!
  • Much faster file download and page load times
  • Better permissions and data validation (10,000 star feature)
  • Higher resolution thumbnails
  • Automatic deploys from git main branch for quick and easy development or bug fixes
  • An automatic admin backend for easy moderation
  • Trigram search for misspellings
  • Much more search-engine optimized with redirects from bad URLs and mobile-friendly CSS
  • All of this and more in 4k lines of code vs the previous 33k!

Feature development is now much easier, so head over to Github to submit requests or report any bugs you find.
