Scenario

Screenshot titled ""

Marathon® Infinity takes the closed universe of the Marathon series and blows it wide open. The solo/co-op campaign, “Blood Tides of Lh’owon,” is a 20-level scenario sporting new textures, weapons, and aliens. More than that, the scenario sheds a surprising new light on the story’s characters and the meaning of events. Having defeated the Pfhor and reawakened the ancient remnants of the S’pht, the player now faces a world where friends become enemies and all is not what it seems…

Marathon Infinity is the most popular Marathon game in online play, and is compatible with hundreds of community-made maps. This release includes the classic graphics, and revamped high-definition textures and weapons.

Basic HUD 1.2

treellama on 05/01/2024

Screenshot titled ""

This is a basic fullscreen HUD for any scenario that uses the default Marathon 2 or Infinity HUD, and doesn't come with its own HUD. It attempts to make as few assumptions as possible, which allows it to work on a wide variety of scenarios, but is a little ugly. See the screenshots for details.

Software mode works but is even uglier due to the inability to circle clip the motion sensor.

Normal/Double/Largest preference is supported, but the plugin will try not to cover too much of the weapons. Double isn't enabled until 2k, and Largest is really only useful at 4k.

Based on the Default HUD script by Hopper.

To install, create a Plugins directory next to the Scripts directory in the scenario you want to add it to, and copy this zip file to the Plugins directory.

Notes for version 1.2:

Changes:

  • Supports normal/double/largest preference

I (Aaron / The Man) have repackaged Goran Svensson’s Marathon Infinity textures, which were released as five separate plugins, as a single plugin, mostly for the sake of reducing clutter and clicking in our Infinity plugin menus (i.e., if you want to enable one of these, you’ll probably want to enable them all).

In my book, these are by far the best Marathon Infinity texture replacements available (unless you’re using MaraToon; then you should use MaraToon for everything), and they’re certainly the most faithful.

I used Goran’s most recent releases of the Water, Lava, Jjaro, and Pfhor sets; I used kaosof’s edit of the Sewage set with added bump maps. See the included readme for additional information; each set also includes its original documentation within its respective folder.

Screenshots coming when I feel like it.

Enjoy!

ThrokPak 1 1.1

Screenshot titled "Solemnit7y"

These are my first 3 maps that I have absolutely no business uploading here, but am doing so anyway. I started mapping 4 days ago so if they're terrible dont blame me. Thanks to everyone in the discord who helped me figure out how this stupid crap works. Weland and Vasara rock and are a lot of fun. I keep staying up way too late making these maps that everyone is going to complain about. Hopefully these are fun to play or mock or something Have a Nice day.

Why ThrokMaps? Idk, there's tons of ammo and weapons, power ups, and healing items to keep you in the fight. idk I think theyre kinda fun

  1. Solemni7y - Small map primarily made for dueling. Very basic.
  2. Enforcer Longs to See - A larger map with much more complexity but hopefully a simple flow. Features non-intrusive (hopefully?) water mechanics. No swimming required. I just like the way this map looks honestly. It has a cool dam that you can see out the window.
  3. Charon 2049 - A Marathon interpretation of Halo 1's Chiron TL 34. You teleport around and you don't really know where you're going but there's lots and lots of shotguns and a hydraulic press to squish your friends.
  4. Get Even - pure high speed deathmatch.
  5. Grim Destiny - An abandoned space station; low gravity with dynamic flow.

Note: I really like the M2 XBLA textures cause they're colorful, and I textured all this with that pack. You can of course use whatever pack you want but if it looks weird somewhere or if youre like "wow that texture sucks here" thats why.

Well that's it. if these suck then just delete them I dont care

Notes for version 1.1:

Bugfixes and 2 new maps:

  1. Get Even - pure high speed deathmatch.

  2. Grim Destiny - An abandoned space station; low gravity with dynamic flow.

Screenshot titled "Strange Aeons"

An original fan soundtrack for Marathon Infinity, composed by Talashar. Featuring themes from Marathon, Halo, and M2SE. This won't just be a mashup of themes you know though, levels and character have been given their own themes to provide a new dimension to the game. Experience Infinity in a whole new way. Based on Treellama's M2SE plugin.

Preview my music here: https://talashar.bandcamp.com/album/strange-aeons

NOTE: MUSIC DOES NOT LOOP ENDLESSLY. This is intended. Many levels have added silence to allow the ambience some time on the stage. This silence is not a bug. Each level has been assigned specific tracks to emphasize narrative beats, emotional highlights, atmosphere, and overall vibe. If you would like looping versions of the songs, you can get them for free via the bandcamp link (click Buy Album then enter $0).

Recommended volume levels are 100% Master, 70% Music.

If you run into any issues with this plugin, I can be found in the Marathon Discord as @throkgaar.

Enjoy.

Screenshot titled "Rubicon AO Light 1"

Archive of the original Marathon Rubicon release for classic MacOS Aleph One, titled Rubicon AO Light. This is the Rubicon scenario as it was before Rubicon X.

The files on this archive were taken from the Macintosh Garden here https://macintoshgarden.org/games/marathon-rubicon and passed through MacBinary II+ to make them compatible with modern Aleph One for Windows and Linux too.

Also included is a set of maps bundled with the AO Light release, including some netmaps, the Rubicon Xariim scenario and, as far as I can tell, one ported map from the unreleased scenarios that eventually became Rubicon.

Notes for version 2:

Added the weapons and items MML scripts from Rubicon X to fix wrong names in the HUD.

Screenshot titled "Waterloo Waterpark with the replacement shapes"

What?

A version of the Marathon Infinity shapes with all landscapes and the Water, Lava, Sewage, and Pfhor texture sets replaced with their Marathon 2 counterparts, which, as I showed in a submission to the Marathon’s Story page, serve as the basis for almost all of the Infinity versions. (Even the Jjaro set? As it happens, yes; more than half of it is based on the Sewage set. I did not rearrange the order of textures in that image at all.)

Why?

Primarily to make texturing for Marathon 2 a lot more convenient – you can just swap the shapes file between Marathon Infinity and Marathon 2 in Weland’s preferences rather than also having to change the scenario as well. Also, Vasara gets unhappy if the Jjaro texture set isn’t present; the Landscapes start to glitch out. (I don’t use Visual Mode.lua that much, but I seem to recall it having issues as well.)

Beyond that, this enables players to play through Infinity with Marathon 2 textures if they want to. I think the games are better with their intended textures, but it can be a neat experience to play Infinity with M2 textures at least once. (If nothing else, levels often match their terminal graphics better!)

By whom?

Sharkie copied the textures and the 8-bit landscapes over; I redid the true-color landscapes myself because I noticed issues with their palettes. The original graphics, of course, are by J. Reginald Dujour (Marathon 1), Mark Bernal and Robert McLees (Marathon 2), and Randy Reddig, David Longo, Colin Kawakami, and Beth Ulman (Marathon Infinity).

If it exists, the space station is located in the KBC void near the edge of the observable universe, conducting experiments on a theoretically proposed anomaly predicted to be in this region of space. With the prior knowledge that return of even data from this mission was not possible due to the vast distance, our ancestors set out on a journey across the stars to target this predicted phenomenon. Any remains of the vessel are assumed to be drifting in a lifeless unhabitable condition. Distant whispers of long forgotten reality bending experiments in extradimensional space are all that remains of the original documentation about the expedition which left our local region of space approximately 2.2 Ma. You are to collect any and all research data and artefacts, evacuate any unlikely survivors and secure the station for detonation. Good luck.

Pepper HUD 1.0

W'rkncacnter on 08/05/2023

Screenshot titled "Alternate 1"

This is a slightly modified version of the Default HUD created by Hopper: https://simplici7y.com/items/m2-default-hud/

This is meant for people that want the HUD to be small, but not obscure parts of the game world. If you are bothered by the black bar this usually leaves, it can be filled in with artwork. I've included several options for artwork in the resources/extra_images folder. Or you can create your own.

To size the HUD, you can use the typical HUD sizes in the options. However, they will all be smaller than the default HUD, as one of the goals of this plugin is to maximize the game world view.

The normal HUD also typically leaves black bars on the sides depending on your resolution and settings, and this HUD attempts to eliminate that from happening.

Notes for version 1.0:

If you downloaded a PepperHUD that was floating around from a long time ago, you should get this new version.

  • The player's arsenal is more powerful, with many adjustments that make it more effective on total carnage.

Liver and Onions 2

cassis on 01/05/2023

Screenshot titled ""

Liver and Onions is a collection of maps I originally made for an unreleased scenario called hellpak

Levels are divided into three chapters, normal combat, platforming and explosive jumps and mandatory explosive jump combat, accessible from a hub. They are also marked in the vidstart menu which I encourage you to use since many levels start difficult sections without a pattern buffer.

Keep in mind chapters do not proceed in order of difficulty, the last few levels of the normal combat chapter are some of the hardest in the scenario.

These levels were created as either niche gameplay experiments, glitch exhibitions or injokes. I am mainly releasing them to vid some of them but if anyone else enjoys these I would be happy.

Gemini Station 2.0

The Man on 08/12/2022

Screenshot titled "Gemini B"

Note: I didn’t create this; Dr Mike Trinder did. All I did was to convert it to a format compatible with modern Aleph One.

Gemini Station (first complete release: July 9, 1997) is a partial conversion for Marathon Infinity with 12 total levels, though players may not see them all every time they play it. Two are secrets and three are brief exposition levels, so it has seven proper levels, of which six are very long. Seriously, they’re huge.

I haven’t played through the whole thing in a while, but it was extremely impressive when it came out; as far as I know, it was the first scenario to incorporate several mapmaking tricks like airlocks and programmable teleporters. I last replayed it two or three years ago and felt it still held up.

As far as I’m aware, the only versions previously available were incomplete conversions that came with a shapes patcher that only ran on MacOS (and I’m not even sure they ran with modern releases). This version includes the patched shapes file, so you don’t have to bother patching the shapes. All you need to do is select the map and the shapes in Marathon Infinity and you’re good. (Make sure to select the shapes!)

Apart from patching the shapes and converting the map to MacBinary format, I haven’t modified any of these files at all; the readmes are even still in Mac OS Roman. Hopefully Dr Trinder won’t mind me making his scenario accessible to modern players; several people have asked for it on Discord over the years, so I figured I’d save people the trouble in the future.

In any case, I strongly recommend this, especially if you haven’t played it. It’s probably in my top 10 Marathon scenarios of all time, and the only things keeping it out of the top 5 are its short length and its relative lack of original assets (there are no new sounds and not many new graphics). However, it still looks phenomenal, and its map design would probably still seem inventive today. The writing is also fantastic.

Note: Screenshots incorporate Goran Svensson’s HD walls & landscapes, Freeverse’s HD weapons, and in some cases W’rkncacnter’s BRUTAL MARATHON plugin. I only spent about twenty minutes on these – they’re probably nowhere near the best sights Gemini Station has to offer. (Also, you probably shouldn’t actually use these plugins with it – certain game functionality is highly likely to break or not look as intended.)
