A 25 level solo scenario, seven years in the making, Marathon: W'rkncacnter explores the player's future after the final level of Marathon Infinity.

Although it uses standard Marathon Infinity shapes, monsters, and weapons, Marathon W'rkncacnter features stunning architecture and use of the cutting edge persistent Lua feature of Aleph One.

Coming soon: the Marathon: W'rkncacnter net map pack.

WARNING: There are story spoilers in the reviews! Don't read them if you don't want to be spoiled.

Notes for version 1.0:

I didn't have anybody beta test this, so maybe you should consider this a beta release. ::shrug::

This is just the raw MML from M2 Pepperscapes by W'rkncacnter (not the uploader of this), without any of its actual landscapes. What it does is stretch landscapes across the entire screen, thus preventing any repetition/cut-off points. It looks a little goofy, but for high-FOV users, it may be preferable to the standard, small landscape size. It will work with Marathon 2, Infinity, and regular scenario landscapes (e.g. Phoenix's original landscapes). It will NOT affect modern HD landscapes, such as Phoenix's built-in HD landscapes plugin or Rubicon X's.

Mararthon: Yuge is a 30 level scenario, plus 225 secret levels for many extra hours of gameplay.

Yuge is a community project that was created in 2017 with procedural level generation using rooms that were mapped by hand. Mappers contributed rooms of various design and size, which were then fed into the level generator, which created the overall level layouts, texturing, monster placements, items, and sounds. Therefore, you will see some of the same rooms multiple times while playing through the scenario, but each will likely have a different set of monsters in slightly different locations, different textures, and you will likely have different weapons.

The level generator was created by W'rkncacnter, and 353 unique mapped out areas were contributed by several mappers: Windbreaker, RyokoTK, Sankara, W'rkncacnter, President People, $lave, General Tacticus, Glamdring, and Adminn_1.

Yuge has 2 new weapons, 2 new boss monsters, new wall textures, new scenery objects, maps with precipitation, and a new liquid type. Along with the procedurally generated levels, the final level of the main scenario, "enter the DOUCHE", is a custom map created by Windbreaker.

Like HD textures? Check out the Yuge Definition Textures plugins: http://simplici7y.com/items/yuge-definition-textures.

Keep and eye out for a URL within the secret levels where you can download even more bonus maps.

Notes for version 1.2:

Version 1.2 (December 2018): fixed terminals to work with newer versions of Aleph One, added fog to several levels in the original campaign, made minor adjustments to several levels in the original campaign.

Version 1.1 (August 2017): made levels work properly with co-op, added amazing icons, fixed an issue with the stats plugin.

Version 1.0 (July 2017): initial release.

Gemini Station 2.0

The Man on 08/12/2022

Screenshot titled "in partibus infidelium"

Note: I didn’t create this; Dr Mike Trinder did. All I did was to convert it to a format compatible with modern Aleph One.

Gemini Station (first complete release: July 9, 1997) is a partial conversion for Marathon Infinity with 12 total levels, though players may not see them all every time they play it. Two are secrets and three are brief exposition levels, so it has seven proper levels, of which six are very long. Seriously, they’re huge.

I haven’t played through the whole thing in a while, but it was extremely impressive when it came out; as far as I know, it was the first scenario to incorporate several mapmaking tricks like airlocks and programmable teleporters. I last replayed it two or three years ago and felt it still held up.

As far as I’m aware, the only versions previously available were incomplete conversions that came with a shapes patcher that only ran on MacOS (and I’m not even sure they ran with modern releases). This version includes the patched shapes file, so you don’t have to bother patching the shapes. All you need to do is select the map and the shapes in Marathon Infinity and you’re good. (Make sure to select the shapes!)

Apart from patching the shapes and converting the map to MacBinary format, I haven’t modified any of these files at all; the readmes are even still in Mac OS Roman. Hopefully Dr Trinder won’t mind me making his scenario accessible to modern players; several people have asked for it on Discord over the years, so I figured I’d save people the trouble in the future.

In any case, I strongly recommend this, especially if you haven’t played it. It’s probably in my top 10 Marathon scenarios of all time, and the only things keeping it out of the top 5 are its short length and its relative lack of original assets (there are no new sounds and not many new graphics). However, it still looks phenomenal, and its map design would probably still seem inventive today. The writing is also fantastic.

Note: Screenshots incorporate Goran Svensson’s HD walls & landscapes, Freeverse’s HD weapons, and in some cases W’rkncacnter’s BRUTAL MARATHON plugin. I only spent about twenty minutes on these – they’re probably nowhere near the best sights Gemini Station has to offer. (Also, you probably shouldn’t actually use these plugins with it – certain game functionality is highly likely to break or not look as intended.)

A set of remastered sounds for AOPID: http://simplici7y.com/items/aleph-one-pathways-into-darkness

These are 6 dB quieter than the originals (an attached text file explains why), but also significantly less noisy, much crisper due to the addition of higher frequencies that were absent from the originals, and in some cases free of substantial audio flaws like 60 Hz hum on a lot of the Headless sounds or digital clipping distortion on some of the explosion and weapon sounds.

Note that most of these are not exact reconstructions of the missing audio data, but best guesses that I put together in iZotope RX5 Advanced; in a few cases, however, I was able to use the CD-quality audio sources. Also, make sure you have 16-bit audio on, or you’ll get the original sounds. I also suggest pairing these with W’rkncacnter’s HD AOPID graphics for best results: http://simplici7y.com/items/hd-aopid-graphics

Enjoy!

Marathon Gambit 1.1

Aurora on 11/11/2019

Screenshot titled "Wrath_Eternal_2"

Marathon Gambit

What is it?

Marathon Gambit is a recreation of Bungie's Destiny 2 gametype of the same name

How do I play?

The objective of Gambit is to kill things, collect the keys they drop, and turn in the keys to summon a final Boss. The first team to summon its boss and kill it wins the round. (a pdf is included that explains this more in depth)

What is included?

The download includes the following

  • Netscript
  • 3 Netmaps.
  • MML and phyA files for merging with your own maps.
  • A pdf manual that explains how to play and what is required for making your own maps.

Included Maps

Zoranel: This map was created for testing purposes and is not the prettiest, but i feel it was fun to play on so I'm including it. It is the largest map in this pack currently.

Wrath Eternal: This is a modification of the Bungie netmap "Wrath No More?" to support Gambit. It is the smallest map in the pack and can get very hectic!

Salinn: This is a modification of one of my own netmaps to support Gambit. In terms of size this map is somewhere between Wrath Eternal and Zoranel

Future Updates

The main feature I am looking into adding is an intro cinematic. Other than that all currently planned features are present, so updates will be limited to bug fixes or adding new netmaps

Capture the Falg 1.0.3

irons on 01/23/2016

Screenshot titled "Layout"

This script adopts W'rkncacnter's CTF script to the newer API. See the readme, the original CTF script, and the Magenta Filter maps for more information.

Notes for version 1.0.3:

This release hopefully fixes out-of-sync issues. It also adds messages for all flag statuses (taken, dropped, returned, scored). There are also screen faders for these events. Finally, the alert sound no longer plays if a player is constantly picking up his own flag (i.e. when it continuously respawns on the base polygon).

I highly recommend updating to this version.

Journey back in time through a whopping 60 maps as we present all of the bad maps we've made and discarded throughout the years.

Some of the maps are nearly tolerable, some are quirky and stupid, some are outright terrible, and some are deformed joke maps.

Please don't host these more than once. In fact, don't host these at all.
