Xmas 2: Icecave unburied.0

drictelt on 02/05/2018

Xmas 2 is the second in a series of collaborative single-player projects. It consists of 8 levels.

Contributors: Goran, Simon, RyokoTK, Sinjid, Drictelt, Shadowbreaker, Phobos Romulus

Notes for version unburied.0:

Apparently this scenario had gone lost. This is what I found on my backup drive. I suspect it is the final version, but I'm not entirely sure.

Weapon frames from Damage Incorporated modified to fit Marathon's physics and animations.

Damage Incorporated is owned solely by Paranoid Productions. No copyright infringement was intended.

Notes for version 0.1:

-This project will grow over time to things bigger than just weapons. The biggest in scope would basically be a port of Damaged Incorporated to Aleph One (not happening in the slightest, btw). Expect updates.

-No HUD icons yet. Some weapons and items are redundant

-Just a shapes file for now, learning how to patch and plugin

Feral Map-pack 0.1

This is a little map-pack I made to show what I'm capable of doing. It's not masterpieces but I'm pretty proud of my work.

It contains 4 maps and a shapes file which replaces the Sewage set. The maps are:

Horrible Horrid Environment And Demise (Negative at first yes)

Just keep yourself wise with the rating. This is a beginner's set.

EDIT: I forgot to add that this requires a certain song to be better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCYhXCkcbas

The music that is shipped with the Marathon release is based off of the classic Quicktime synth. This is the fed through fluidsynth which utilized a modern sample set — in this case, Don Allen's Timbres of Heaven. All tracks have been normalized and made working for in-game.

To install, simply replace the Music folder within the Marathon data folder

Notes for version 2.0:

-A new attempt utilizing Timbers of Heaven 3.4 and the latest fluidsynth.

Marathon 1 monster textures at 16x the original resolution using xBR scaling. Includes marine textures and every color palette.

Credits: - General Tacticus, who helped me index M1's original shapes file - Treellama, who helped me use Aorta to remove blue from the textures - Hawkynt, who created the program that could batch upscale 2,602 textures, and - Hyllian, who created the xBR 4x scaling algorithm

Notes for version 1.3:
  • Added some missing textures
  • Reverted back to original algorithm
  • Quality-of-life improvements

Replaces the 2d scenery sprites with 3d models in Marathon 1

Note: works best in shader mode.

Make sure bloom is turned off!

Obviously some errors can't be avoided, but I have done my best to smooth over as many bumps as possible.

Notes for version 1.2:

-Replaced the escape pod model with a much better one

-Changed the pfhor egg to be more like the original (an egg)

Screenshot titled "The gas giant from "The Pfhor" chapterscreen above an enhanced Marathon"

This 360° wrap-around starscape replacement shows the stars as they would appear in the Tau Ceti system on July 3, 2794 at 0839 UTC, as well as a few local objects likely to be visible.

The stars, colony, and positions of planets have been rendered by Celestia, the open-source universe explorer. Using data on the planets known to be orbiting Tau Ceti, I made a few tweaks within real parameters to make things more comfy for our Martian colonists.

Remember the pink-brown planet from the Pfhor chapter screen? It's now an ice giant around which the colony orbits. Or is it a water giant? Celestia says it's 40F up there. Whatever, it's like Uranus, execpt smaller, warmer, and not sideways.

The huge blue planet is the colony moon, 1300 km below. I tried to put the Marathon in as high an orbit as possible while still being close enough to be an easily reached space station.

You can easily find Sol in the screen shot from G4 Sunbathing. It's just above and to the left of the right gantryway, or just below and to the right of Arcturus, slightly brighter than the surrounding stars.

On Marathon levels, your point of view will be from the Marathon's surface. The Scoutship will be part of the backdrop, while the scenery item is replaced by the unused slave transport sprite. On Pfhor levels, you view from an alien ship surface, and the Marathon sprite has been enhanced.

Software used: 1 - Gravitation to find a stable orbit for the moon, 2 - Celestia to produce renders, 3 -Hugin to stitch them together into a panorama, 4 - GIMP for postprocessing and Marathon's surface texturing.

To install, please drop the zip file into your appropriate plugins folder. Also, make sure that in Preferences > Graphics > Rendering Options, that "Replacement Texture Quality" for Landscapes is set to "Unlimited."

Notes for version 3.0:

-New landscape for Pfhor levels -Corrected star orientation on Pfhor levels -Removed floating Marathon logo -Restored & enhanced Marathon sprite -Shortened plugin UI name -Fixed Windows compatibility (I hope)

This is a simple physics file that uses a modified version of the physics file found merged into the level "You Think You're Big Time? You're Gonna Die Big Time!". This "project" initially began as a way to humor myself but I found out that it is actually lots of fun to play around with using the Survival game type, so I began trimming stats until I was happy with the difficulty.

For the most part, all you need to know is-

Most enemies are now completely gray, good luck guessing rank between fighters! Major troopers and major hunters now drop x1 HP powerups Slight increase in enemy vitality across the board Slight increase in enemy projectile speed across the board Fighters move very quickly, troopers are more grenade happy, hunter projectiles now track their target (just like in YTYBT?YGDBT!)

"Thresholds of Rite" is a level built for Tempus Irae in the style of a Wolfenstein 3D level -- that is to say, no variation in floor or ceiling height (save for obstacles). It has slightly modified textures and physics, along with a new NEFX music track that plays in-game (if you have music turned on).

To get the track to run, just drag the Music folder into your Tempus Irae folder along with the map and it should run. If it doesn’t for whatever reason, say so in the comments. If nothing else, you can just listen to the music separately, loop it on a media player while you play, or simply go without.

Much thanks to Windbreaker for helping me with a lot of the technical hurdles, as well as playing through the level and offering a couple of good tips in design. You are a true comrade.

This is a version of the Marathon 1 Hd Weapons Pack that has been made compatible with the old M1A1 release.

As such, this will not work with current versions of aleph one, using the original files.

All credit for making this compatible with M1A1 goes to to Thedoctor45.

Jumping Hills 1.1

W'rkncacnter on 02/08/2017

Two netscripts meant to be used with the King of the Hill gametype. They will cause the hill to move around periodically. The compass points to the hill, and the lighting on the floor of the hill will flash.

Jumping Hills will work with any map enabled for KOTH, while Base Jumping Hills requires maps set up in a specific way. The readme has more details.

Notes for version 1.1:
  • Added indicator to show whether the hill is above or below you.
  • The exact same hill will no longer be chosen twice in a row.
  • Added a floating fusion contrail for a better visual indication of the hill.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented some maps from working with the script.
  • Added Base Jumping Hills.
  • Bumped Imperium down on the list of S7 files.
