Red Light 1.1

Hopper on 02/16/2014

Play "Red Light, Green Light" during net games. It's fun.

Notes for version 1.1:

Version 1.1 adds a message when someone runs a red light, and a sound when the yellow turns red. Thanks to Sharkie Lino and his play-testing crew for the changes.

Marathon: Pathways into Darkness Version 0.5 now available!

I am sorry it took so long to get this beta out to the public. The reason was that the MPiD Images file was giving a lot of trouble and so I have decided to replace it with a regular Infinity Images file.

If you download the beta I would love to hear your opinions and/or suggestions. I will not appreciate ugly rants but any sort of constructive criticism is VERY welcome. Please post your thoughts here or email me at: nhoad at sunbeach.net

Now, there are several problems in this beta that I am already aware of. If you have a suggestion for how to best fix them I would be happy to hear it:

Most blue in the game is transparent: This is a problem caused because of the blues used in PiD. DeepThought is indirectly helping me fix this problem. Monsters get stuck in walls or don't attack immediately: This is a mapping problem which I intend to fix as I polish the levels. Any mapping tips are welcome! There is no resting: Bobwithkeycard is helping me implement resting, for the moment there are only a set number of health potions per level. Some items are undersize or oversized Levels seem really short. This is simply a fact of PiD levels, if you move at any sort of decent speed the levels become much shorter PLAY ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY! PiD was not designed for multiple difficulty levels and neither is MPiD! Monsters on Total Carnage WILL eat you alive! You cannot go back between levels: A1 doesn't like this feature and it would be incredibly hard to implement (and not really worth it in the end). So there will be no backtracking.

Those are the big problems and I hope to fix them all. I REALLY want to hear your recommendations, opinions or even encouragement! If there are any problems in the beta (such you cannot travel between level 3 and 4) let me know and I will upload a corrected map file for the beta.

What to expect in future versions:

A completely new Images file. New high-res textures, weapons and sprites by DeepThought New LUA by bobwithkeycard (LUA which will allow resting, talking to the dead PiD style, nuclear bombs and more) Chapter screens by Phobos-Romulus All of the original PiD levels

Thank you all very much for your support and I hope you enjoy this beta until the full version of MPiD is released! Note: There is no release date so don't bother asking.

Many of the MPiD team members have come and gone over the years and I believe that myself and Patrick White are the only remaining active members of the team listed below.

Beta Credits:

Raul Bonilla Nicholas Hoad Loren Petrich J³hannes Gunnar Alexander Strange Tim Vogel Patrick White - Images Hugo Forss - Icons

Special Thanks: Bungie Forrest Cameranesi The Marathon Mape Making Guild Hamish Sinclair (for maintaining PiD at Bungie.org) The Aleph One Team James J Cousar Goran Svensson Claude Errera Gregory Smith (Treellama)

PS: The MPiD Team is in no way responsible for any damage caused to your computer by this beta.

PPS: I have a serious issue with crediting people, I MUST do it. If you notice anything in this beta you believe you were not credited for let me know immediately please!

Screenshot titled "Largest scale 16:9 resolution"

This is the default HUD for Marathon 2 & Marathon Infinity, extended to fill today's modern 16:9 screens when using "largest" HUD size mode. This plugin can be used with both Marathon 2 & Infinity.

A second inventory page is displayed to fill the new space. In Solo games, the extra page always shows Ammunition. In Netgames, the extra page always shows the Scoreboard.

Additionally, the 3D game view is no longer letterboxed.

Normal, Double, and Largest HUD sizes are all supported.

Lastly, this also fixes a couple small issues the original HUD had:

  • SMG/Fusion pistol item & ammo names are no longer cut off since now we have a bit more horizontal space

  • Yellow/Purple shield bars now don't have gray corners when overlapping the bar under it

  • Motion tracker graphic not as dithered as before, so it stands out less compared to the regular background

Note that due to custom graphics this is not compatible with custom scenarios that replace the HUD.

Based on the "M2 Default HUD" Lua by Hopper

This will not work with M1. I may later make a wide adaptation of the M1A1 HUD for those who want this kind of HUD in M1. Widescreen Marathon 1 Classic HUD here.

Notes for version 1.1:

v1.1: Fixed shield/oxygen bars being drawn a tiny bit too low

Notes for version 2024-04-18:

The scenario shell is completed, with one level so far. I intend to release more levels in the future to be played in any order wished.

Screenshot titled "Vasara AF options screen"

A work-in-progress update of Hopper & Ares Ex Machina’s texturing plugin (which itself is based on treellama & Jon Irons’ Visual Mode.lua), with several new features:

  • Support for Aleph One 1.7’s new 2x, 4x, and reverse slide transfer modes
  • Vastly more control over texture alignment, including:
    • Options to decouple X and Y snaps
    • Options to align textures to the center, right, bottom, north, west, south, or east
    • 19 more grid sizes.
  • A “decouple transparent sides” option that allows you to apply different textures, alignments, and lights to each transparent side of a line.
  • Options to apply only the texture or only the transfer mode rather than both.
  • A toggle for the “realign textures when retexturing” option.
  • Overlays that show what you’re looking at (useful if you want to use Lua scripts on part of the level).

It also fixes several bugs, including:

  • The Lua error spam that happened whenever you had “apply texture” and “apply light” selected with a light value above 55.
  • “Must Be Explored” polygons being reset to “Normal”.
  • “Align adjacent” failing to work with many textures placed on empty lines. (Some transparent textures still won’t align properly; “decouple transparent sides” may mitigate this issue somewhat.)

To install:

This remains a work in progress, and updates may be slow, as Vasara’s code is sparsely documented and frequently quite dense, but I intend to continue working on it. I welcome constructive suggestions (best delivered through GitHub or Discord) and will attempt to implement them as time permits.

Enjoy!

Vending Demo 0.2.0

Kuurin on 09/23/2016

Screenshot titled "...but also good without."

Revival of a long lost quest for vending machines.

Single Player Lua + HUD + MML + 3d Scenery + Sounds!

That's right, the vending machines talk to you now. You weren't crazy after all. Now get away from me.

This is a demo, so not much is extremely polished, but it should be fun to play with in the meanwhile.

Notes for version 0.2.0:

Changes:

+Improved model and skin.

+Fixed issue with rebellion maps breaking Lua script.

+Did I mention it's much prettier now?

Issues:

-Still can't ensure glow map masks properly. Pfft.

Screenshot titled "Solo, 16:9"

NOW UPDATED FOR ULTRAWIDE!

Experience the authentic 1994 jank of Marathon 1's classic HUD as if it were made for your monitor!

This plugin takes the classic HUD and extends it to fill modern 16:9 and Ultrawide displays.

The same plugin covers both 16:9 and 21:9 monitors. It automatically adapts to your chosen resolution.

With the extra space, additional inventory pages are displayed. In Solo games, weapons and ammo are displayed. In Netgames, the scoreboard is always displayed.

Based on the Classic M1 HUD plugin posted here by Hopper.

Wide Marathon 2 & Marathon Infinity HUD here.

Notes for version 2.19:

2.19 - Ultrawide support

  • 21:9 version of HUD added; the plugin will detect your screen size automatically
  • In Solo games, 'Weapons' is now the pinned extra inventory page instead of 'Ammunition'; this is because otherwise an empty 'Items' page would stick around until you manually switched off of it
  • Tweaks to graphics
  • Now only uses the Truetype font with Software mode (because Software can't scale bitmap fonts)

1.1 - Extra Inventory Page

  • In Solo games, 'Ammunition' page is always pinned
  • In Netgames, the Scoreboard is always pinned

FOV Script 1.0

3371-Alpha on 05/23/2016

This is a script that modifies Marathon/Aleph One's FOV values.

"Why would I need to download this if I can just find the code to this script on the various threads at the Pfhorums, copy and paste it into a text editor and save it as a mml file?" Quite simple, because you're lazy.

Notes for version 1.0:

This script will not work on scenarios that have their own FOV modification scripts included.

Quantum of Lua 150.svn

timothy on 12/23/2008

A small collection of Lua experiments you probably shouldn't host.

Notes for version 150.svn:

2 small bug fixes.

New Scripts:

Spawn_Kamping.lua - Players respawn with 3x health and a rocket launcher. Kill them within 10 seconds to score bonus points. Each second after they spawn players lose 10% of their extra health and are worth one less point. Who should you target? You'll know by the color of their shirts.

Homing_Rockets.lua - Now it's even easier to home in on your enimies. Just aim in their general direction and wait for the sound that tells you it's time to fire. But be careful. It's hard to maintain a lock at a large distance and if you hear the juggernaut then find something to hide behind.

Changes:

Fly-by-wire rockets can now be disabled by individuals.

Quantum Loched King of the Hill displays carnage report as time.

There have been a few renditions of a FloatingX for M1A1, but non of them looked like they belonged in the actual game of Marathon.

This version matches the interface of the real game, and has the same floaty goodness of FloatingX.

The screenshots are actually from Legend, and the version i captured is slightly out of date, so there may be some very very minor differences.

Finally, The Health and Oxygen bars are misaligned by one pixel... Because of this small margin, I cannot correct it. And yes, I have tried.

Chibi Usa Soundtrack Bonus Edition

ftg.death.rhino on 06/06/2013

Screenshot titled "Cool, Eh?"

Now you can hear the Original Marathon Soundtrack in the modern MIDI Instruments for Quicktime! Me sad though, no plugin, no MML script, just replace your Tracks folder with the new one... :'-(

Notes for version Bonus Edition:

It may not be a plugin, and it may not replace on its own, but it has some cool extra stuff, things for newcomers and things for Born on Boards!

Hitscan Lua 1.0

W'rkncacnter on 04/09/2021

Dumb scripts for making projectiles hitscan (meaning they travel instantaneously).

  • hitscan.lua - Fast moving projectiles are hitscan instead of moving at 1 WU/sec.
  • hitscan_all.lua - All projectiles, including flamethrower, fists, and monster projectiles have unlimited range and are hitscan.

Superscalar 1.0

timothy on 02/18/2009

Screenshot titled "Don't let this happen to your games!"

Superscalar is designed to level the playing field, giving inexperienced players an advantage while increasing the difficulty for regular players. No more will you have to hold back or intentionally miss when playing guests.

The script determines the difference in score between each player, and adjusts the amount of damage they inflict on each other accordingly. The player in the lead will do less damage per shot, while the other one does more.

The damage scale is calculated per player, so equally skilled players should generally do equal damage. Damage scales quickly as the point difference increases. This can be modified as needed by editing the scale numbers at the top of the script.

Host using one of the standard gametypes like Every Man for Himself or King of the Hill. Do not host using the Netscript gametype.

Bonus: I've included Host_Advantage.lua in the package. I attribute all of my success last year to this script, but now that I can't really host anymore there's no point in keeping all the fun to myself.

Cranberry

Cathunter on 03/27/2008

I don't know if anybody still wants to use Cranberry but I noticed it no longer seems to be available on-line. This is the application v3.0.b5 which would handle Lua & MML; the package includes various scripts people had left on Mike Benonis's site.

Spawn Whiners 1.0

treellama on 12/05/2008

Use these scripts when people whine about spawn kills.

Spawn\_Blinking.lua: players blink for 10 seconds after spawning, or until they get a weapon, so you know who (not) to kill

Spawn\_Invincible.lua: players are invincible for 10 seconds after spawning, or until they get a weapon

Spawn\_With\_AR.lua: everyone spawns with an AR and some ammo

Damage 1.0

Megabyte on 01/03/2010

In this script, the scoring method is changed so that every time you deal damage, you gain points. Kills and deaths do not award points. Watch out and don't damage yourself because it will take away points and suicides usually hurt more than help you.

Just select it when hosting and set netscript as your gametype.
