Screenshot titled "Triangle one close-up"

[12/23/21 update: One new template added that is triangle-based, specifically by taking all the 1-world-unit squares from the unfilled grid template and dividing them into four triangles.] I use pre-prepared templates to make a lot of NEFX maps and I felt it was time to pass them along for anyone else's use.

One of these is used to create many NEFX netmaps, and is a room of 700 1-WU square polygons with pre-textured walls, ceilings, and floors, differential shading, item spawns, and sounds.

Another one is similar but spanning the entire possible map, and may be used for solo maps. Of course, you may want to delete some of the squares.

The oldest one is the same as the second one except unfilled and not configured.

Notes for version 3:

One new template added: A triangle one with all 1-world-unit squares divided into four triangles.

CTF Lua 4.0.2

W'rkncacnter on 11/04/2009

This is a lua script that enhances the CTF gametype so it doesn't suck. I wrote the original CTF script, and Irons added some cool features along the way. The readme included explains everything in detail.

Notes for version 4.0.2:

This is the same version that has been out forever. Just adding the file to Simplici7y.

The all-in-one (AOI) Marathon 2 installer has these textures at 512x512 resolution. Install this to enjoy Marathon 2's textures at double that.

This folder is identical content wise to the 'HD Textures' folder contained by default within Marathon 2' plugins folder, except all textures have been replaced by ones with a resolution of 1024x1024.

This differs from the other 1024x1024 texture plugin for M2 on this site in that this download contains Freeverse's HD skyboxes.

To install: unzip, and drop into Marathon 2's plugins folder, then activate it in-game.

IMPORTANT: Delete or deactivate the original "HD Textures" folder.

PLEASE NOTE: To avoid unsightly skybox tiling, play on an FOV of 88 or lower(assuming aspect ratio of 16:9) and tick 'limit vertical view'.

I AM NOT THE AUTHOR OF THIS SOFTWARE

I notice that the version of Marathon: Freedom on Simplici7y is actually out of date. CubicCircle released a 047 version some time after the 036 version (the one on S7 now), but it seems that isn't available here anymore.

I am uploading this for posterity.

Marathon Freedom v047 by CubicCircle.

Notes for version ~:

Application is available in MacOSX only, since, well, that's the only version I have.

Improvements since 036- two new levels and a World Arena: three new tracks. Tears of K'lia architecture slightly modified.

Eternal X 1.3 preview 6

The Xeventh Project on 03/07/2024

Screenshot titled "A Friend in Need"

Eternal is one of the largest scenarios ever created for Aleph One, initially created by Forrest Cameranesi (Pfhorrest) and subsequently revised and expanded by a massive team known as the Xeventh Project, which, as of this update (March 2024) now includes more than 40 people. Besides Tempus Irae, it may be the oldest scenario still being actively developed; it was first released in 2004 and has been refined and expanded almost continuously ever since. Features include, but are hardly limited to:

  • 52 levels, some revisiting familiar locations from the Marathon trilogy and some being among the largest ever created for the engine
  • An intricately layered plot featuring dense political and philosophical themes, a tragic romance, time travel, major events from the Marathon trilogy’s backstory, complex original characters, and returning faces from the trilogy’s cast
  • A huge, acclaimed soundtrack with unique music for every level, lasting more than seven hours total, and created by over a dozen composers and arrangers (significantly expanded in 1.3 previews 4 through 6)
  • Redesigns of most of the game’s familiar cast (new in 1.3), some old foes from Pathways into Darkness, and some new faces (some new in 1.3)
  • Hundreds of gorgeous terminal images (many added for 1.3 preview 4 through 6)
  • Five texture sets, encompassing 650 high-resolution textures, 12 detailed original landscape textures, and several separate human and alien environments
  • An in-game menu system (new in 1.3 preview 6) that toggles several optional features, including:
    • Simplified overhead map views in around twenty levels (new in 1.3 preview 6)
    • A secret tracking system (new in 1.3 preview 4)
    • Auto-save the game on level transition (new in 1.3)
    • An RPG-style monster health display (new in 1.3 preview 6)
    • Shared pickups between players in network games (new in 1.3 preview 6)
    • Disabled friendly fire between players in network games (new in 1.3 preview 6)
  • More than 360 sounds, remixed or remastered in CD quality, in stereo where possible (new in 1.3)
  • Atmospheric weather like rain and snow (new in 1.3)
  • A final boss battle of sorts (new in 1.3)
  • Detailed documentation including illustrated field guides to Eternal’s weaponry, aliens, and humans, detailed credits, a meta-history of Eternal, and technical notes on how its maps and scripts work (new in 1.3)

The current development release, 1.3 preview 6 (released on 2024-03-07), is perfectly playable despite still being incomplete; it is now our recommended way to play the game. We’ll refrain from estimating the release date of 1.3 final, as we’ve overshot too many estimates to count (thank you, feature creep). The current “stable” build, 1.2.1 (released on 2021-11-07), is missing several features listed above but is still an enjoyable game in its own right.

The screenshots seen on the right are from a development release from between 1.3 previews 4 and 5 and are a reasonable reflection of Eternal’s current appearance. Although they were taken on Normal (so as to show more monster types), we do recommend playing Eternal on the highest difficulty you can manage.

Notes for version 1.3 preview 6:

Current development release. 1.3 incorporates several new features, many detailed above. New in 1.3 preview 6:

  • Hard requirement of Aleph One 1.7 or later.
  • An in-game menu system that toggles a ton of new optional scripts, including:
    • Hide irrelevant layers of the overhead map (a massive aid to navigation).
    • RPG-style monster health display.
    • Disable friendly fire in cooperative games.
    • Shared item pickups in cooperative games.
  • New drone and Juggernaut sprites in chapter four.
  • Fixes to dozens of physics inconsistencies.
  • Major music changes:
    • Every level now has at least one unique music track.
    • “We Met Once in the Garden” now uses multiple tracks that shift depending on in-game events, à la FTL or Cadence of Hyrule – to our knowledge, this is the first scenario to make use of Aleph One 1.7’s dynamic music features, though in a relatively simple fashion.
    • Seventeen of Craig Hardgrove’s tracks have been newly remastered or remixed from newly available, much higher-quality sources, some multiple times.
    • The game soundtrack is now encoded as Opus, the objectively best lossy music codec by every performance metric.
    • True obsessives may use an optional lossless FLAC version for the in-game soundtrack.
  • New (or newly accessible) areas in “Deja Vu All Over Again”, “Roots and Radicals”, “Core Done Blew”, “A Friend in Need”, “Frog Blast the Vent Core”, and “I’ve Got a Bad Feeling About This”.

Additions to preview 5:

  • Fixes to several major bugs, including crashes in six different levels, the HUD messing up in non-16:9 aspect ratios, and problems in network games with the secret counter and map overlay.
  • Over an hour of new/updated music since preview 4.
  • New secrets in a few levels.
  • Jjaro sludge is no longer coloured like M1’s toxic Pfhor goo.

Dead City 5.0

Nibenon on 06/03/2011

Screenshot titled "Previous Version, satisfied?"

The first ever survival map, with a base, plentiful weapons and healing, and lots of space for battle. And yes, I MADE THE PREVIOUS DEAD CITY MAP AS WELL, SO OF COURSE IT LOOKS LIKE IT. DUH.

Notes for version 5.0:

Completely redone: you can now run up the rocks, distracting polygons are removed, others were added, and especially the size will allow for more carnage. Take note: despite size change, aliens will still get stuck on the steps, and must be killed with bullets, not by 'splodes. My solo record is now 22. Good luck.

Pfhorge is an OSX map making utility, as yet uncompleted but usable. There are still bugs with terminal editting and map compilation while the texturing can't be carried out in the visual interface.

I've included a manual that assumes you are already familiar with Forge.

This is a sounds remaster for Marathon 2 and Infinity. It converts all sounds to 44.1 KHz 16-bit stereo with noise suppression, widens them, equalizes them, and adds reverb and echo at appropriate times.

Notes for version 0.1:

There are a few sounds that need to be adjusted: -S'pht Platform running sound is too loud and sounds like a freight train humping a drum store. -Some looping sounds need proper intro/end termination to remove the transition "popping". This has been fixed already for "Alien Noise 1" and sounds lovely on Acme Station.

Citadel 1

Envy on 09/25/2009

A map i only converted to the marathon engine. not my idea.

this is the Citadel, biggest map almost ever... uses all space possible... Careful of the crypt if you use the Physics that emulate the bob war...

Notes for version 1:

some bad lighting here and there, still needs fog, some teleporters need hooking up, edges need killzones, needs a readme... other than that, iz finished.

@President People thats what it is.

@timothy, this is going in my scenario, and the textures would therefore be customized to the map. and idk how to do fog, and the troops were just cause i was bored. nobody likes bots.
