The TTEP (Total Texture Enhancement Package) is a massive package containing remakes of the original textures from the Marathon trilogy.

It replaces the original low-quality textures with new high-ress versions with a maximum size of 1024x1024 pixels. I've tried to get them as close to the originals as possible.

New in version 7.0:

  • Script files have been cleaned up and files have been renamed to make it more clear how to install.

  • All textures are now optimized .DDS files, with increased performance as well as quality!

  • Textures can now be scaled down in Aleph One's OpenGL settings. This also makes the TTEP a single size package, there's no longer 4 different sizes.

  • A lot of the textures have tiny flaws removed, some are completely redone to make them look better.

  • The Textures are now divided by their games, meaning you're not forced to download and use the Marathon 2 Textures when you only want the Marathon 1 replacements for example.

Jump Script 1.2

Megabyte on 07/11/2008

This script uses the microphone button to jump. It will only allow you to jump while on the ground so you can't go flying across the map.

Be sure to this host with microphones off.

Version 1.1: Now makes a grunt sound when you jump and has cleaner beginning text (uses overlay instead of print).

Version 1.2: Now the microphone wont interfere with the sound. This should be the final version.

Eternal X 1.3 preview 6

The Xeventh Project on 03/07/2024

Screenshot titled "Pfhor får lamm"

Eternal is one of the largest scenarios ever created for Aleph One, initially created by Forrest Cameranesi (Pfhorrest) and subsequently revised and expanded by a massive team known as the Xeventh Project, which, as of this update (March 2024) now includes more than 40 people. Besides Tempus Irae, it may be the oldest scenario still being actively developed; it was first released in 2004 and has been refined and expanded almost continuously ever since. Features include, but are hardly limited to:

  • 52 levels, some revisiting familiar locations from the Marathon trilogy and some being among the largest ever created for the engine
  • An intricately layered plot featuring dense political and philosophical themes, a tragic romance, time travel, major events from the Marathon trilogy’s backstory, complex original characters, and returning faces from the trilogy’s cast
  • A huge, acclaimed soundtrack with unique music for every level, lasting more than seven hours total, and created by over a dozen composers and arrangers (significantly expanded in 1.3 previews 4 through 6)
  • Redesigns of most of the game’s familiar cast (new in 1.3), some old foes from Pathways into Darkness, and some new faces (some new in 1.3)
  • Hundreds of gorgeous terminal images (many added for 1.3 preview 4 through 6)
  • Five texture sets, encompassing 650 high-resolution textures, 12 detailed original landscape textures, and several separate human and alien environments
  • An in-game menu system (new in 1.3 preview 6) that toggles several optional features, including:
    • Simplified overhead map views in around twenty levels (new in 1.3 preview 6)
    • A secret tracking system (new in 1.3 preview 4)
    • Auto-save the game on level transition (new in 1.3)
    • An RPG-style monster health display (new in 1.3 preview 6)
    • Shared pickups between players in network games (new in 1.3 preview 6)
    • Disabled friendly fire between players in network games (new in 1.3 preview 6)
  • More than 360 sounds, remixed or remastered in CD quality, in stereo where possible (new in 1.3)
  • Atmospheric weather like rain and snow (new in 1.3)
  • A final boss battle of sorts (new in 1.3)
  • Detailed documentation including illustrated field guides to Eternal’s weaponry, aliens, and humans, detailed credits, a meta-history of Eternal, and technical notes on how its maps and scripts work (new in 1.3)

The current development release, 1.3 preview 6 (released on 2024-03-07), is perfectly playable despite still being incomplete; it is now our recommended way to play the game. We’ll refrain from estimating the release date of 1.3 final, as we’ve overshot too many estimates to count (thank you, feature creep). The current “stable” build, 1.2.1 (released on 2021-11-07), is missing several features listed above but is still an enjoyable game in its own right.

The screenshots seen on the right are from a development release from between 1.3 previews 4 and 5 and are a reasonable reflection of Eternal’s current appearance. Although they were taken on Normal (so as to show more monster types), we do recommend playing Eternal on the highest difficulty you can manage.

Notes for version 1.3 preview 6:

Current development release. 1.3 incorporates several new features, many detailed above. New in 1.3 preview 6:

  • Hard requirement of Aleph One 1.7 or later.
  • An in-game menu system that toggles a ton of new optional scripts, including:
    • Hide irrelevant layers of the overhead map (a massive aid to navigation).
    • RPG-style monster health display.
    • Disable friendly fire in cooperative games.
    • Shared item pickups in cooperative games.
  • New drone and Juggernaut sprites in chapter four.
  • Fixes to dozens of physics inconsistencies.
  • Major music changes:
    • Every level now has at least one unique music track.
    • “We Met Once in the Garden” now uses multiple tracks that shift depending on in-game events, à la FTL or Cadence of Hyrule – to our knowledge, this is the first scenario to make use of Aleph One 1.7’s dynamic music features, though in a relatively simple fashion.
    • Seventeen of Craig Hardgrove’s tracks have been newly remastered or remixed from newly available, much higher-quality sources, some multiple times.
    • The game soundtrack is now encoded as Opus, the objectively best lossy music codec by every performance metric.
    • True obsessives may use an optional lossless FLAC version for the in-game soundtrack.
  • New (or newly accessible) areas in “Deja Vu All Over Again”, “Roots and Radicals”, “Core Done Blew”, “A Friend in Need”, “Frog Blast the Vent Core”, and “I’ve Got a Bad Feeling About This”.

Additions to preview 5:

  • Fixes to several major bugs, including crashes in six different levels, the HUD messing up in non-16:9 aspect ratios, and problems in network games with the secret counter and map overlay.
  • Over an hour of new/updated music since preview 4.
  • New secrets in a few levels.
  • Jjaro sludge is no longer coloured like M1’s toxic Pfhor goo.

Screenshot titled "It's a long line to the NEFXpo event, and you have to yell and shove to get around it."

In this new NEFX scenario shell for Marathon Aleph One, you're a pedestrian trying to get past a crowd of other pedestrians to get to the exit, in part by yelling and shoving. But no one can die, so be patient, persevering, and careful about where, when, and how you shove and yell.

Notes for version 2023-10-16:

Today I added one new map for Marathon: BOBJam, "How Originary Understandings Get Re-Reached". This can be downloaded individually or with other maps or the scenario itself at the provided link.

A horrible virus is affecting everything around you.

The only way you know how to deal with the situation is to spread it around as much as possible, and kill everything that remains.

(A plugin compatible with Marathon 2, Infinity, or similar scenarios.)

The main thing to know about this plugin is that if you're going to refer to it, you must use ALL CAPS.

Along with that, you should know that it adds extra gore to every monster that dies. Some monsters spill blood when you shoot them. Bullets/explosions leave marks on the ground and walls. All changes are purely visual. The amount of gore you see is configurable (see readme for details).

This is compatible with M2 and Infinity, and any other scenario that largely uses unmodified versions of those monsters.

Notes for version 1.2:
  • Tooncinator made the shapes patch fully compatible with Infinity by adding missing SMG graphics, vacbobs, and color tables.
  • Removed the crush sound as it wasn't working for everyone and didn't add much
  • Now with new butts!

Phoenix Falling 1.3

Shappie on 07/18/2020

Screenshot titled ""

Phoenix Falling is a large M1 scenario of 44 levels featuring a new story with new characters, weapons, creatures, sounds, shapes, and more. (48 with secret levels and one network level)

Please keep in mind - there are bugs in this release. Most of these are caused by running the game in the Aleph One engine, which did not yet exist when the scenario was created. This used to be run with the original M1 engine.

Some of the largest known bugs are related to shapes not rendering correctly with chairs, tracer rounds from the brass gun, the weapon display in the HUD interface, and most of the new creature animations.

Repackaged for Simplici7y with permission from the Phoenix Falling creators, Matt & Andrew Schenk.

Notes for version 1.3:

This version has a fixed Map file that should allow terminals to function in the vacuum levels.

Translated versions of games in the trilogy are all the rage these days, so I thought I'd make my own version. I painstakingly went through every line of the terminals and translated them to loch. Just select this map file when playing M2, and you're good to go.

A small pack of medium Infinity netmaps in the Wolf3D style, to be updated continuously. The newest one (07/11/19) is "Secret Machine Life". The other two were previously released individually: "Through Havoc's Various Nodes" and "Trial's Parallax" (originally released for Yuge). Future netmaps made in this style will be packaged in updates of this upload, with update notices and individual download links included in the description for those who already downloaded a previous release. This way Simplici7y won't be "clogged" or "spammed".

Jumping Hills 1.1

W'rkncacnter on 02/08/2017

Two netscripts meant to be used with the King of the Hill gametype. They will cause the hill to move around periodically. The compass points to the hill, and the lighting on the floor of the hill will flash.

Jumping Hills will work with any map enabled for KOTH, while Base Jumping Hills requires maps set up in a specific way. The readme has more details.

Notes for version 1.1:
  • Added indicator to show whether the hill is above or below you.
  • The exact same hill will no longer be chosen twice in a row.
  • Added a floating fusion contrail for a better visual indication of the hill.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented some maps from working with the script.
  • Added Base Jumping Hills.
  • Bumped Imperium down on the list of S7 files.
